Skin And Scalp Care To Fight The Changing Season
Winter season is harsh for the skin as it can bring a lot of dryness. Extremes of temperatures both cold weather and very harsh desert like conditions make skin dry.
Protecting skin in winter with moisturizer and exfoliating regularly to remove all built up scale and dead skin becomes necessary.
Hydrating Treatments for skin:
Hydrafacial: This is a liquid skin polishing system that uses various different serums that contain hydroxy acids and antioxidants for skin rejuvenation. This procedure takes 15-20 mins to perform and consists of cleansing, exfoliation, extraction of blackheads and whiteheads and finally hydration. Your Dermatologist might add a mild peel with the procedure depending on the condition of the skin after analysis. The treatment is helpful for most skin types including oily, dry and sensitive skin. It helps to improve acne, blackheads, whiteheads, fine lines and open pores.
Dermal Fillers: Dermal Fillers contain Hyaluronic acid which is part of the structure in our skin called ‘collagen’ which is lost during the process of ageing. This is the supporting structure of the skin so its loss causes skin to sag and droop and causes depressions and folds. Dermal filler injections are used to plump volume, fill in folds and restructure and resculpt the face making one look younger and rejuvenated. Dermal Fillers are used to plump volume in the lips, to enhance and augment cheeks, chin, to improve a sagging jaw line, to improve facial contours, to remove lines and wrinkles, to lift eyebrows and for nose corrections. They last for 6 months-2 years
Filler Hydration: Apart from plumping volume most Dermal Fillers also have a hydrating range which uses a much smaller molecular structure of Hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin. These injections do not plump volume but restore the elasticity of the skin, and hydration that has been lost and improve fine lines. This hydration happens internally so they help when moisturizers cannot in ageing skin. A series of 3 treatments are required for good skin hydration that lasts for up to a year. The treatment can be done on areas like the face, décolletage’, neck and hands which show ageing the most.
Microdermabrasion: This is a skin exfoliating treatment that is done with the help of a machine. This treatment uses salt crystals or Diamond tip on the hand piece that causes mechanical abrasion and exfoliation removing dead cells and dry scaly skin. Done regularly, it improves spots, fine lines and dull skin and is done in a Dermatologist office in less than 10 minutes.
Peels: A peel solution uses Hydroxy acids typically that damages the outermost layers of the skin that peel away revealing younger radiant skin that has lesser pigmentation, spots, fine lines and has better texture and tone. A course of 6 peels are required for great looking skin that can be maintained after with good sun care and skin care products. There are various different types of peels that maybe prescribed by your dermatologist. Some are intended to improve pigmentation and spots while some are intended for skin brightening and some others for improving acne.
Scalp problems: Scalp just like the skin can also get dry and flaky in the winter season. Warm oil massages with oils such as Jojoba oil, almond oil, amla oil, olive oil or even coconut oil will help to soften the scaliness. Anti dandruff shampoos can be used to wash the residue off but they can leave the hair dry so conditioning hair becomes necessary.
Scalp hydrating treatments and hair conditioning treatments are available at most hair salons.
Scalp peels also help to exfoliate and reduce dryness and scaling. This also helps for better penetration of other nutrients on the scalp
In cases of extreme scaliness and dryness it is important to get the scalp evaluated by a dermatologist as you could be suffering from conditions like Psoriasis, Seborrhoeic Dermatitis etc which will have to be treated appropriately with medication
Itchiness in the scalp may be related to dryness and also fungal infections which again will need to be treated accordingly.
