Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) is a treatment used in Trichology for Hair fall, hair growth, in Cosmetic Dermatology for acne scars, anti-aging, etc. PRP stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanism by releasing growth factors. Often a patient using PRP will be able to avoid more invasive procedures such as Hair Transplantation.

What Is PRP?

PRP, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is a relatively simple, non-surgical treatment that uses cutting-edge technology with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Platelet Rich Plasma is made from your own blood and hence is very natural with no added chemicals. Your blood is first drawn and then spun in a centrifuge that allows Platelet-rich plasma to separate out. Platelets contain growth hormones that promote growth and healing. When PRP is injected into hair thinning areas, it stimulates new growth, increases density, the diameter of existing follicles is thickened, roots get stronger all of which happens with the new healing cycle that allows for new cell growth, and restored blood flow.

What does the procedure involve?

A sample of blood will be taken from a vein in your arm. The blood sample is then taken to be spun in a centrifuge. The preparation takes about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, a numbing cream is applied on the scalp or you may receive numbing injections. This makes the procedure less painful. The finished PRP product is then injected into the areas of hair loss.

What Are the Potential Benefits?

PRP improves healing, promotes new growth, thickens the diameter of existing follicles, strengthens roots and prevents hair fall. It is also used on the face for improving acne scars and to reduce lines and wrinkles. It is proving to often be an effective and natural alternative to medication and Hair Transplantation. Patients can expect to see a significant improvement in the density of hair.

What Can I Expect During My Treatment?

You will consult with the doctor, who will ask about your medical history and see if you are a good candidate for PRP therapy. We will then obtain the blood sample and prepare the PRP. The nurse will prepare the area and apply for numbing medicine. After 35 mins, the medical staff will inject the PRP solution into the areas of hair thinning. The process may be repeated every 2 months for 3 sessions

What Can I Expect After the PRP Treatment?

You may have mild swelling and discomfort which is temporary. Our numbing cream makes it almost painless. Medication may be prescribed along with an anti-hair fall shampoo.
