Eczema
Eczema is condition which effects skin in dry scaly patches and is often worse in the winter months. Since it is a long standing skin condition that becomes chronic, it needs good maintenance so that there are no flare ups.
Here are some of the Dos and Donts for people suffering from eczema
Do’s
Use lukewarm water when taking a shower or bath. Avoid extremes of temperatures
Use soap free, fragrance free body washes and cleansers to wash. Soaps strip more oil and fats from the skin that will make skin go dry
Use gentle allergen free detergents and washing powders for washing clothes that are meant for sensitive skin
Do use an emollient following a bath and atleast twice daily. This acts as a barrier and prevents evaporation of water
Use cotton clothes and materials that do not irritate skin
Keep your nails short so you are not tempted to scratch
Don’ts
Avoid stress which can aggravate the condition and cause flare ups.
Avoid wearing clothes like silk or wool which can irritate the condition further
Avoid using harsh detergents, perfumes, soaps and irritants on the skin. Avoid skin products with fragrance
Avoid scratching the skin lesions. This will lead t an itch-scratch cycle that is difficult to get out of and will only worsen the condition.
