Tips To Take Care Of The Scalp
The scalp has several layers of skin just like skin elsewhere and need proper cleansing and taking care of so it functions optimally.
- Dry scalp disorders, flaky scalps, psoriasis etc need help with exfoliating shampoos that have salicylic acid or coal tar in them. Once a week to 2-3 times weekly can be applied depending on the severity. Dry scalp can also be itchy but scratching can lead to more problems so keeping your nails short may help.
- Avoid excess heat styling and chemical treatments like colouring and perming which can cause more dryness in the scalp and irritations. If you do such treatments, follow post care instructions and opt for regular deep conditioning treatments
- Use gentle soothing shampoos when you have used chemical treatments, preferably SLS free shampoos that do not cause more dryness.
- Excess dryness in the scalp can be helped with oil conditioning treatments . Regular massages with or without oil can also help improve circulation and exfoliation
- Use lukewarm water on an irritated scalp. Hot water may not be a good idea. You can use cold water as a last rinse to give a shine.
- Exfoliating lotions and scalp peels are now available in some salons which will help to fasten the skin renewal process in the scalp.
- Dandruff in the scalp is caused by the overgrowth of a type of yeast and can be kept under control by using medicated shampoos that contain Zinc Pyrithione.
- Whilst using heat styling you can use heat protectants to the hair to prevent some damage.
