With the festive season underway, what beauty advice would you give when it comes to cleansing, toning and moisturising of oily, combination, dry and sensitive skin.
Kindly keep your inputs restricted to only skincare. We need elaborate answers of about 50-60 words for each skin type.
Any home-based beauty regimen and facepack recipes are also welcome.
Oily skin
It is important to cleanse away the dirt, sweat, makeup and sebum every day twice a day.
If you have excessively oily skin or acne, use a cleanser that has benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Whilst choosing a type of facewash, choose foaming face washes or gel based ones
Use lotions or serums for moisturizer. Do not use cream based ones.
Use a non comedogenic sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
Always remove makeup thouroughly before going to bed. You may use baby oil to help remove stubborn makeup.
Exfoliate skin 1-2 times a week but if you have acne affected skin avoid exfoliation as it can aggravate acne. It is best to consult a dermatologist for in clinic exfoliation with peels
Treatments like Hydrafacial will help to reduce comedones, blackheads and whiteheads
Combination skin
Combination skin behaves like oily skin in the T zone but like dry skin elsewhere. Skin care routine should be mostly like oily skin with an emphasis on using moisturisers
Cleanse skin with foam or gel based cleansers or facewash. Do not use soap as it can dry out skin even more.
Exfoliate twice weekly . you can make your own exfoliating scrub at home by mixing besan with curd or cream and massaging gently before washing off. If you are choosing a store bought facial scrub, choose one with softer beads. Almond kernels, rice bran, brown sugar all make for good scrubs. Mix them with honey or yoghurt and a drop or two of essential oil
Moisturize routinely day and night with lotions and serums
Use sunscreen regularly no matter what the seaon and use a non comedogenic sunscreen
Dry skin
Avoid soaps as they can dry skin even more. Use creamy moisturizing facewash or cleanser twice daily. If your skin is too dry you may even try washing it once a day with a cleanser and just use water for the second time.
Exfoliate 1-2 times a week. You can choose a scrub with moisturizing properties. If you are making your own facial scrub include a few drops of sweet almond oil in the scrub.
Moisturize with creams and serums. You can use oil based creams for heavier hydration.
Protect your skin from the sunrays by using a sunscreen with spf 30 or more. Dry skin ages faster so its important to take care and avoid ageing effects from sun rays
Sensitive skin
Sensitive skin should follow all the steps of cleansing, moisturizing and using sunscreen but choose products that are hypoallergenic and with least amount of chemicals.
It is best to go with dermatologist recommendation .
Avoid self treating at home and always do a tiny test patch before using at home DIY products.
Use only mild exfoliation once a week if you have very sensitive skin and go with dermatologist recommended procedures or scrubs.
